What steps have you taken to ensure your guests are following local burning rules, regulations and guidelines at your Airbnb or vacation rental? Have you done your due diligence to ensure your guests are informed and able to follow those guidelines? This is something every host with a fire pit should be considering when creating their rentals and guest resources.

It is imperative as hosts that we provide the information needed for our guests to follow the rules and regulations - we can't expect everyone to know what the rules are or how to locate them. It is our job to make the process simple for them so that mistakes are avoided and everyone remains safe, including your rental property.

Each area has differnet regulations and resources in regards to outdoor burning. As a host it is your responsibility to educate yourself on these regulations and where to find resources so that you can pass the information along to each of your guests during their stay. Part of being a good host is providing great customer service and making things easy for guests when on site.

To ensure guests are informed with local burning regulations at our accomodation is a small sign on the fire pit reminding guests they need to check if it is safe to burn before doing so. The sign also reminds guests they are responsible for any damages or fines for not following said regulations. This sign has to be removed before burning so people can not say they didn't see it. On the sign we have a QR code which links directly to our municipalities website where guests can see if it is safe to burn that day as well as the website written out for those who wish to search it without using the code. All guests have to do is scan the sign using their phone and it will automatically pull up the burn map in our area to see if it is green, yellow or red. We also provide the information in the guest guide using the same format. We provide a QR code they can scan as well as the written web address for those who want to search it themselves.

By providing the information in an easy to access format we ensure our guests know what the regulations are, that they can accesss the information easily and we protect ourselves by doing our due diligence to remind guests of fire safety. A host who does not provide the neccessary information is just as guilty as the person burning during a burn ban.

If your accommodation is in a high tourist area where people are visiting frequently from other countries or parts of the country this becomes even more important as the laws or rules where they live may differ from your location. If these guests are following their home laws and rules it could lead to trouble!

We linked a copy of our sign below for you to print off and utilize for FREE in hopes of preventing wildfires, house fires and general irresponsible burning. Click the link below.

How it works:

The link will redirect you to canva. You can use canva free of charge or upgrade.

You can edit the font, wording, colours and QR Code to fit your style and property details.

To Customize the QR Code click on it and click 'Edit' in the toolbar.

Here you can change the web address that the QR Code links too, you will want to change it to the web address of the local burning regulations in your area/burn map.

Once you have customized the template you can print it at home with your home computer. From here we used self laminating sheets to protect them from weather and make them easy to clean. You can find theses at most office supply stores and sometimes even the dollar store.

Cheers & Happy, Safe Burning!
